France - paris
Born in 1975, DAVE BARANES is an urban artist who grew up in Drancy, a suburb of Paris, and who was immersed in hip-hop culture and urban art throughout his teenage years. Already as a child, he was passionate about drawing, and it was almost natural for him to turn to graffiti and decorative trompe l'oeil painting on walls. Collectors from around the world in search of color and raw emotion are captivated by his work.
Dave Baranes' realistic animals seem to emerge from highly urban settings, as colorful as they are concrete, their soft curves against a backdrop of sharp angles add extra depth to the painting, like a double trompe l'oeil contrasting life with inertia. Bringing nature into the city in such a masterful way is less a paradox than a way of pointing out the excesses of our world. Through his wild animals and urban backgrounds, the artist Dave Baranes wants to remind us that we, as human beings, intoxicated by our technological successes, have forgotten our rightful place and our belonging to the living world that surrounds us.
Certainly, the artist never forgets his fellow human beings and doesn't hesitate to put his art at the service of solidarity. Dave Baranes has long been involved with the Hôpitaux de France foundation, and has created countless murals in buildings dedicated to sick children, giving him the opportunity to deviate from his usual themes and depict birds, suns, and childhood heroes, bringing color and cheer to the eyes of young patients.
